...The better to hear you with my dear! One of the Painted Dogs at the Oregon Zoo, up close. These predators have many incredible aspects, such as the fact that they hunt much like the Pony Express idea of our Old West. They take turns running down their prey...when one tires, another takes over until the prey is exhausted and then they close in for the kill. Their ears are also amazing. Not only are they very large for their head size, but this serves multiple purposes. They can hear incredibly well and they use them much like turn signals on a car, turning them in the direction they intend to go to let the others know what they are doing. Very well adapted hunters.

Glad you enjoyed it. I don't really have very many decent shots of them, cause they don't seem to do much when I'm there. Hopefully, they'll be more active now that the weather is getting nicer.
Uh hunh! They do! And actually, they are...at least from a human perspective. I've watched videos of them hunting and killing and it isn't pretty! Much like hyenas, they are super afraid of other animals like lions stealing their kills so they......eat very quickly if you know what I mean. Hardly no sooner than they bring the prey to a stop then they're pretty much tearing it apart. Quite brutal considering they don't kill the prey first...they just start eating. Makes perfect sense in their world though, I'm sure.
Oh, I can't watch such videos, you are frightening me here, Mark! (Not yourself but what you are saying but about this animal's behavior with its prey). This sounds horrible!
But they seem to be so cruel...
theyre so beautiful!
and this is a wonderful shot
so intense!well done!
