Perhaps one of the most incredible and beautiful birds I have ever seen, an Asian Eagle Owl shows off his unbelievably brilliant orange eyes and gives a screech for my benefit. I had asked the keepers if the Eagle Owl was in any of their bird shows yet and was told that she was not. But I suppose one of the head keepers heard me inquiring and that I was sad not to be able to see her and he told me that if I promised to be there at 3:30 that afternoon, he would bring this stunning bird out for a while so I could shoot her. I thought that was exceedingly considerate of the keeper and at 3:15 I was there, center stage, front row!
If a picture's worth a thousand words... I'm talkin' up a storm!

When it comes to eagle owls ("uvar" as we know them in Sweden), I've always been fascinated by their "ear tufts". Dunno why, but the idea of a bird with ears intruiges me to no end.
Lovely shot, either way. And those eyes are indeed beautiful!
They're up. I also have some other pretty decent ones in my Birds gallery. One especially favorite of mine, and rising very quickly in my top 20, called Master of His Domain.
I'll agree with the big cats, but to me, the small cats have an aloof quality, like they are just bored or almost as if they are above all the nonsense going on around them and would just as soon walk away as have anything to do with it. That quality keeps me from being as attached to them as I might be.
Lovely shot, either way. And those eyes are indeed beautiful!
