Dedicated to my very sweet friend, Ciara (Mocha-Blue) [link] who dreams of romance. I can't help her with that but I CAN give her a new place in which to imagine it.
The day had been beautiful! The morning crisp and clear and the afternoon warm enough to feel nearly too warm in just a t-shirt. The location was beyond heavenly and every direction I turned, something new and wonderful called out to be photographed.
But around 4:00 in the afternoon, the clouds rolled in and the temperature dropped to a not uncomfortable level. Just cool enough to feel fantastic after the heat of the day. Reluctant to finally turn and leave, I was standing in the middle of the rustic wooden bridge at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens, mesmerized by the sight of the thousands of brilliantly green-leaved delicate branches of the willow tree just to my right, swaying in the breeze and the sound of them whispering promises that they would wait for my return. I realized I was covered in goosebumps that were not a result of the somewhat icy wind that enveloped me in it's chilly embrace. What had my skin prickling was the fact that I realized somehow that it was snowing...after a sunny afternoon and in the middle of March no less! Suddenly the world seemed to have become dream like as I turned to my left, facing into the wind and my eyes were greeted by the source of the 'snow'. I stood in wonder as thousands of small pink petals wafted around me bringing the scent of Springtime Cherry Blossoms. I was frozen to the place, my face turned up into the 'snowfall', breathing deeply to take in the sweet smell. I was so engrossed in sensation, I nearly forgot that I had my camera in my hands but remembered in time to capture this image before the breeze died down and the moment was gone.
I am lucky...I was there and the feel and scent of that moment will stay with me, possibly forever. I can only hope that this image and my words can somehow convey to you, the viewer, some sense of what that moment was like. If I have been able to, then I will be happy that though you could not be there with me, I have in some way, managed to share that moment with you!
I have displayed this quite large, even though I know it will mean many will have to scroll to see the entire image and may not be able to see it in whole all at once because I would like you to be able to see the 'snowfall' in a bit better detail. Featured here:[link]
