My starfish collection. All are taken in tide pools at Bob's Wayside Beach just south of Yachats, Oregon.

Tide pools are always wonderfully diverse, and this shot really speaks to that.

There are few better stretches of road than 101 for fantastic photography like this.

Amen to that! :D As soon as I can manage it, my goal is to take a week or so long trip and just travel down 101 and stop anywhere that strikes my fancy, shooting my way down the whole coastline. Of course, that would really take much longer to accomplish than a week or even two as much as I know I'd be stopping everywhre.

If you ever do, don't miss the northern portion. The area around the Hood Canal with the Olympics in the background is a sight hard to beat. Plus there are all the small towns and fishing villages. The Puget Sound region, in general, has some great scenery to offer. As you said though, there always seems to be less time to explore than you need. I'm sure you would do a terrific job capturing the essence of the Pacific coast if you end up doing such a trip.

:D Thank you for the tips. You're talking abut northern Washington coast right? Yeh, I should really get up there too, I've never seen that area at all. I'd love to also see that Olympic National Forest. I hear they have some magnificent old growth forests there.

Don't know for sure when I'll get to do it, but I know one thing for sure...if I haven't done it before then, I'll for sure do it in 9 years when I retire! I'm gonna live on the coast and just devote myself to my photography. :D

I lived on the Olympic Peninsula for years as a kid before moving to southern Washington. Those forests defiantly stick with you. A must see if you have the chance. The whole horseshoe that 101 makes around the Olympics is worth seeing. It starts just west of Olympia, follows the the east side of the mountains, wraps around the other side and follows the coast down to Mexico.

I have an image up in my gallery of a stretch of 101 a little west of Port Angeles, which is about the most northern point. Other than that, check out [link] if you would like to see some good images of Hood Canal and the surrounding NW Washington.

That sounds like a good goal, too. Portland is very nice, but even when it's raining it's beautiful on the coast.

Exactly...when it's gray and raining here in portland, it's just a wet city but on the coast, all weather is beautiful in it's own way! I get so excited every time I think of going there.

Thank you for the links, I'm going to bookmark them so I can go back again and again.

Where in your gallery is the image you are talking about?

Got them...thanks for re-sending! That is one awesome panorama! I made a joke about the sharpness of the curve there, but I know that is a result of stitching the pieces of the panorama together.
