Like the fabled Medusa, the branches of a small maple in the Japanese Gardens in Portland, Oregon twist in snake-like contortions, their moss covered bodies turned to emerald flame by the rich, warm light of a setting sun.

I've made this image display larger to allow seeing the full beauty of it's intricate twistings.
