While kayaking down one section of the Columbia Slough, I got treated to this Great Blue Heron passing by very close overhead on it's way to some favorite fishing spot. He must have just left another spot as you can see water drops still falling from his legs.

I love how close I can get to the wildlife of this waterway from my little 'Banana Boat' inflatable kayak! I have always been amazed by the Great Blue Heron and always hope I will be able to get shots like this one. It's a technique I've been practicing for a long time. It would seem I'm getting close to getting it right! :D

All Summer, kayaking is about all I did, every weekend. Before I figured out I needed sunscreen, my legs burnt so bad I really thought I'd damaged them. :( You wouldn't believe how burnt they got in just one day out on the water! Took me a month to recover. But I got lots and lots of shots of everything from flowers to cool dragonflies to the herons as well as just scenic shots. I'll upload some every now and then. I gotta tell you I'm soooo hooked on this whole kayaking thing! I want to kayak with the killer whales now! Probably never happen but you gotta have a dream right?

LOL - somehow I'm not sure I'd feel too confident among Orkas in an inflatable kayak :giggle:

I know that shin burn!! Legs get almost two tone, tan on top and white on the back :D

I think about that all the time...being in a small kayak with "Killer" whales swimming near...what if one came up under me and capsized me? :omg: Could I be eaten? But I think I'd still do it.

No joke Ruth, my legs the first day I went out for a full day, got so much more than tan on the top....they turned dark purple, I couldn't touch them at all and actually thought I'd have to go to the hospital. I've NEVER been burned so badly. It really scared me! I started having nightmares about amputation. I was that worried. I learned my lesson.
