Every few days, I will highlight one of my galleries so everyone can see some of my archives that might be forgotten or overlooked. Hope you all enjoy the show! :D

You're in Good Company

*NOT* based on actual research!
Just a little piece of self-promotion I put together to see how it would look. I'm pleased with the results. Technically though, I do sometimes wonder how often this might really happen. :D

Newest

Some of my newest uploads. If you like what you see, browse my galleries and watch a sit-back. :D

Art from my Photos

Works by other deviants, using my images as stock!

Lone Wolf's Garden III

I created this image to be my new "persona" for the background behind my Firefox menu bars. I desaturated the center of the garden, added a black silhouette of one of my wolf logos and hand painted it and placed him below the tree. This scene is from one of my images of the Japanese Gardens you can see in my Gardens folder in my gallery.

Sunset Gallery III

A manipulated gallery of 3 of my favorite sunset photos on a created reflective table top.

Japanese Gardens in Miniature

My first attempt at creating the illusion of a landscape in miniature, referred to as "tilt-shift effect", thanks to the inspiration from :icon2sadeyes: and her recent image, [link]

I'm really really happy with the way this turned out for a first attempt. I have stood on this bridge at the Japanese Gardens in Portland, Oregon, but looking at it, I can't make my mind believe that it's really full size and real instead of a little toy model. Even the shrubbery looks like model train set bushes. :D My only regret is that there were no people on the bridge to complete the illusion. I think I'll have to go back and shoot it again and include some people this time.

Sonic Eagle

My best ever shot of a Bald Eagle in flight is here. [link]

This is a re-edit of that original shot, done as a result of a challenge to make him look like he was flying at sonic speed.

Water Mane

I caught this Polar Bear shaking off excess water from his fur after an early morning swim. Backlit by the rising sun, the water droplets created a dazzling display of sparkling diamonds all around his head.

Master Of His Domain

One of my fastest rising images of a Harris Hawk. This is my entry in a contest called "Unique Portraits". I think you can probably see why I entered this shot.

Joke of the week

Think I'll start adding a new great joke every week here, to give my visitors a little chuckle at something other than my deviations. :D

First, I want to say that I mean no offense to any one of any nationality, including the Japanese which is used in this joke as it only makes reference to the war between the U.S. and Japan, a part of history. I am simply re-telling this joke (I didn't make it up) and only use it because it sort of reminded me of the way I was able to get this photo:

I hope anyone reading this will be able to find the humor here and not be offended. Again, offending anyone is not my intention.

Is That You Joe?
=========

Joe was dug into the trenches with his fellow solders at the edge of a small field. Across the small expanse of grass, a group of Japanese soldiers were dug in as well. Occasionally a shot would be fired but no one was hitting anything. Then, quietly from somewhere in the darkness, one of the Japanese soldiers said, "Joe, is that you Joe?" Joe said, "Yeh, it's me" and raised his head and was immediately shot. The only thing that saved his life was his steel helmet.

Later, while recovering in the hospital, he was talking to a soldier in the bed next to him and that soldier asked Joe how he had been shot. Joe blushed and told him how one of the Japanese soldiers had tricked him by calling his name and getting him to raise his head to answer. The other soldier smiled and shook his head and told Joe that that was an old trick he had seen used many times as "Joe" is such a common American name...it always works on someone. Joe's new friend told him, "When you get back to the battle, this is what you do...wait for it to get quiet and then say, "Sato-san, is that you Sato-san?" This is one of the most common Japanese names and there will probably be someone there with that name and you can get revenge."

Joe thought about it and liked the idea and thanked his friend. Several weeks later, Joe was back in the battle and in another trench. He thought the time was right so he carefully put out his rifle and aimed at the enemy trenches and then shouted out, "Sato-san, is that you Sato-san?" and waited for a head to pop up. Instead, from across the field came, "Yeh, it's me...is that you Joe?" Joe raised his head to say yes and KAPOW...got shot again!

*** PRINTS OF MY IMAGES ***

Very important information if anyone wishes to purchase prints of my images!!

First, ALL of my images are for sale and can be purchased on any of the products that DA provides!

However, there may be some limitations as to sizes of final prints due to issues of image file sizes.

Secondly...the process of submitting files for print are quite complicated and tedious if they are done properly. Therefore, I will handle requests for prints of my images on a "per order" basis.

What that means is that I will not set up every one of my images for printing...I could be here for months doing nothing but preparing images for the printing process per DA requirements if I do it correctly to insure the best possible quality in a final print or product.

If you view one of my images that you would like to purchase as a print, magnet, calendar or any other product, simply send me a comment on that image and tell me what product or print size you would like to purchase and I will immediately prepare and upload the source image, made ready for your particular needs and notify you that it is ready and you may make your purchase at that time.

I have been reviewing DA's print program and there are an extreme amount of variables to be considered in the preparation of every individual product and image and print size. Far too many variables to simply set up every image I have available.

I could just upload and set everything up for printing of everything generically, but that would not provide a very quality product. If I handle print requests the way I have outlined here, I can guarantee a print/product that you will be pleased with.

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this issue!

...and one of mine...

o
I have been a member of DA for about 9 months now, and one of my images has finally hit the mark
of 100 :+fav:s. :iconwowplz:

Thanks to all of you who have made it possible.

I know this is no big achievement for MANY of you out there, as I have seen so many of your works get hundreds of :+fav:s within a couple of hours after posting and so many others that have thousands of :+fav:s within days of posting. I know this means that I am 1: not that popular and I fully understand the reasons why that is, and 2: that I simply am not as good as those that achieve these numbers so quickly.

I could easily be robbed of my enjoyment of my little achievement thinking about this, but I choose not to be. I may not be as good as some, have all the expensive and best gear like so many of you, but for me, in my own personal little world, this is still an important event for me and I will feel good about it as a sign of my own growth of skill.

Again, thank all of you that have :+fav:ed my images and left me so many wonderful comments! :tighthug:

:star::winner::star: WINNER'S ANNOUNCEMENT :star::winner::star:

 Hello to all my friends and watchers.

Well, it was a much tougher decision than I anticipated! :phew: I almost wish I hadn't started this. :giggle: There were a lot of great suggestions. :D

My thanks to all that submitted suggestions and my apologies to those who didn't win...wish I could have used them all! :( But there can only be one winner. :(

Congratulations to
~Mocha-Blue
for her suggestion of "The King and His Court" for the first image,

and to
=kayaksailor
for her suggestion of "Double Dreamin'" for the second image,

They'll be receiving their own complimentary copies of the images I used their titles for as a thank you for their winning submissions. :D

Again, thank you to everyone who took the time to make suggestions...I wish you could all have won! :tighthug:

:bulletblue::bulletblue::bulletblue:There have been a few new additions to my menu bar above the title of this journal to provide links to my Portfolios! Just hover your mouse over the Portfolios I and Portfolios II links above to access any/all of my portfolios. (Both the portfolio category name, i.e. NATURE, PORTRAITS etc, as well as the representative image are linked to those portfolios so click on either one).

 Hello to all of you. I sincerely hope this journal finds you and your families and loved ones in good health, happy and enjoying this Fall season. Halloween is nearly here already and then comes my favorite time of the year...or at least the Thanksgiving/Christmas season used to always be my favorite time of the year.

As many of you who are close to me are aware of, I have been through the fire these last many months...my back against the wall, nowhere to turn and the wolves (pun intended) snapping at my heels. There were many times that I thought/felt/believed that I would not be strong enough to get through it...to rise from the depths that circumstances plunged me to. Through it all however, many of my new friends...my ONLY friends (sad as that may be in one sense, but deeply gratifying in another) stuck by me with constant support, best wishes and advice, without which, I think it may have been entirely possible that I may not have had the strength to keep fighting. Some have said that I am good with words, express my thoughts and emotions very well, but I don't think I will EVER have the skill to find the right words to tell all of you how much it has meant to me to get this kind of loyalty, support and honest caring such as I can't ever remember getting from people I have known longer and more closely! With all the love that has come my way from you, my dearest friends, I have found the strength to keep trying, to ignore the pain and the worries and the fears and find my way back up to level ground.

One of the most incredible acts of true friendship from a friend I won't name here (I'm certain this friend knows who I am referring to and is satisfied with the knowledge of how they have helped me and how much it has meant to me and doesn't need or want any recognition or reward) was perhaps the single most important turning point in my recovery. If I manage to live to 100 years, I'll never be able to fully repay this friend or express my total, overwhelming gratitude to them. I only hope they understand how I feel and know that they will ALWAYS be able to count on me for any way I can ever help them for the rest of my days and that they have my unending friendship in return.

I don't want to single out any of my friends due to the size or quality of their support as being better than the support I've received from any other friend. All of my DA friends have been there for me, even though they all have their own troubles to deal with and every act of friendship...big or small, is as important and heartwarming as any other. I thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart!

As this year's holiday season approaches, I know that this Thanksgiving will have new meaning for me...as it has not for several years now. Though I may physically set down to Thanksgiving dinner by myself, I know I will not be alone. In my heart, I will be at a huge banquet table, surrounded by all my friends here and though I don't consider myself a deeply religious man, one religious story comes immediately to my mind...that of the Last Supper, when according to the story, Jesus knelt and bathed the feet of his disciples as though he were a mere servant instead of the Son of God as a way of showing his love and respect for them. In my heartfelt Thanksgiving dinner, with all of you there with me, I will be waiting on you all, serving you to show that same love and respect. For the first time in a long time, I feel I will truly have something wonderful to give thanks for this year. :excited:

Some will undoubtedly think this journal too much, too sappy or too sentimental or whatever, but to me, I have not said enough. For one who is not very used to receiving displays of affection and/or friendship, I am simply in awe of my DA friends and love and respect every one of you as the best of the best and you all have a permanent place in my heart as long as I have one! :tighthug:

As I said earlier, thanks to the strength I have found in the support from all of you, I have managed to pull myself up from the hole that could easily have become my own grave and I am now able to walk with my head held a bit higher now...proud of what I have been able to overcome...obstacles that might have made some others fail and fall. I know now that I will make it and though I may never achieve a level of "success" that some do, I will have what I need and will never again find myself back in that pit. I am not a vain man either...I am fully aware that it has only happened with my own efforts in combination with strength given me by my friends, not by my own character alone. I know that when hard times knock on my door again, the strength you all have helped me find will rise up again and keep me strong...my new "shield".

It's been difficult for me to go from being able to be online all the time due to my long unemployment, to having so many new responsibilities again with little time to do the things I just like to do or want to do, like being here on DA more than I have been lately, but I will get caught up and work out a routine again. Then I will be able to spend more time at least, if not as much as I'd like, being here with you all and enjoying our bit of time together. I get a bit closer to that goal every day. I miss each and every one of you and even when you aren't hearing from me, I am working to change that.

In keeping with my thanks to those of you that have gone out of your way to help me when I have needed it, this journal will feature works from those that have stuck by me and been there for me. There is no way I can feature works from everyone that has shown me any kind of support, there are too many so I will feature some that have gotten the closest to me, apologize to any that I miss. All of you mean so much to me.

I have nick-named Jocelyne, "Dr. Doolittle" as she has a way with animals that I have rarely seen in anyone else. They seem to love her as much as all of her friends do and gravitate to her, much like Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella. She has a knack for capturing them up-close and personal in all their cute glory. You simply owe it to yourself to browse her galleries...I guarantee you will find tons of images to turn even the dreariest day into one full of sunshine and smiles! :D
Shown here are her top 10 faved images.

:iconpassion4photos:
The team of Rose and Anthony continually churn out some of the most beautiful landscapes, waterscapes and seascapes I've ever seen...dramatically proving what I have heard all my life...that the East Coast states have some of the most beautiful scenery in the US. Don't let yourself miss out on this dazzling display of beauty at it's best!
Here are Rose and Anthony's combined top 10 faves.

...and one dedicated to me! :D

:iconjoyfulcolor:
If I had to say one thing about Michelle's work, I'd say that I believe she loves art to "pieces"! What I mean by that, is that she seems to have a love for "pieces" of the whole in her visions. In my opinion, she takes fantastic images of anything she puts her mind to, but she seems to excel when she is photographing a small piece of the whole scene. I believe she would make an incredible macro photographer but I don't think she has figured this out yet. :D She also is taking classes so as good as she is now, is nothing compared to how good she will get as she masters the art she so obviously loves. She also works with clay and polymers to make figurines. Very multi-talented artist. Stop by, check out her work and see her devotion first hand...you won't regret it.
Michelle's top 10.

:iconla-vita-a-bella:
Every once in a while, you come across the work of a photographer and you know instantly that this person was simply born to be behind the camera. Paula is one of those photographers. Her work will inspire you, make you cry, make you cheer, lift your spirits and hold you in it's spell. SHAME on you if you miss the opportunity to float through her world of beauty!
I would present her top 10, but her charts are not accessible. These are just 10 of the many favorites I have of her work, but all her work deserves to be there.

:iconkayaksailor:
Ruth is an excellent photographer who has done a fantastic job of mastering the techniques of photography and gets beautiful results. However, the thing that strikes me most about her work is her vision. She has a way of "seeing" perfect photos in things I and perhaps most people would overlook. I am constantly amazed at the seemingly "lucky" opportunities she gets, while knowing all along that it isn't luck, it's the "photographer's eye" that lets her see these perfect opportunities and her skill that then lets her capture them. :D If you don't already know her work, let me enlighten you a little.
Ruth's top 10 favorites.

:icon1001g:
When it comes to photography of flowers and plants, I know of no one with the artistry, skill, imagination and inventiveness of Edie! If you love floral photography of the kind that you can only imagine in dreams, then you really need to visit Edie's galleries. As you meander through her gardens, you'll almost be able to smell the sweet essence of her flowers! You'll find yourself wanting to stay there forever. And it's not only flowers she excels at...she puts the same skill and imagination to work on all her sugjects. Do yourself another favor and drop in. I'm betting she always has tea on and the welcome mat out. :D
10 of my favorites.

:new::new:I have two slide shows I have created. One is a large sampling of my Nature, Wildlife and Landscape photography, and the other is a sampling of what I call "Environmental Portraiture" that I have done. So, if you'd like to enjoy either of them, fire up your music player, put on some of your favorite songs and follow either of these links to see some of my work in an entertaining slide show with special effects!

please keep in mind two things however.

(one) To reduce the size of these slide shows, the quality and resolution of the images has been reduced!

(two) These slide shows were made some time ago so the contact information on the first slide of the Environmental Portraiture slide show is no longer correct!

==========================================

Photography has been a life-long hobby for me. As a boy, on vacations with family, I remember being filled with wonderful feelings as I'd stand looking at whatever beautiful scene we'd come to admire. I also remember being saddened when it was time to leave. I wished I could have a magic knife that I could use to cut out a piece of the view to take home with me and enjoy forever.

It was only natural for me to make the connection with my "magic knife" and a camera! Now, I spend all the time I can "slicing" scenes from everywhere I go so I can share my visions with others.

Although I have dabbled with selling my images and shooting for pay, as in weddings and family portraits etc in the past, I have only recently set my mind to doing whatever I can to make it really go and get serious about starting a photography business.

About 5 years ago now, I made the jump from film to digital photography and have found the editing and creative possibilities to be a virtual "toy land"!

I have photographed landscapes, wildlife, weddings, formal and informal portraits, pet portraits, sports events and macro photography. I have an extensive library of these kinds of images in film format however they are in the keeping of my sister in Ohio. I will be trying to get them out here as soon as possible.

My digital library of quality images is now nearing the 40,000 mark. In the months to come, I'm sure I will double, then triple that number.

Since my conversion to digital format, I have done some scenics, portraits, sporting events but for my own personal enjoyment, I seem to be drawn more to wildlife and macro photography and I have a vast number of excellent animal close-ups, flowers, insects and other subjects people often aren't able or take the time to see in such close detail.

I will be increasing my library of landscapes, waterscapes etc. on a continual basis...faster as spring and summer approaches and I have plans to travel to some other excellent locations in order to have access to a wider range of wildlife subjects and scenery.

If you look at my ID images, you'll see that I enjoy horseback riding but have recently gotten into a situation where I have no means to keep my horses and too much time devoted to my photography to maintain one. However, due to my love of horses, one of my favorite subjects to shoot is equestrian events of any type. I love shooting children's or adult's horse shows, gymkhanas, game shows and just about any competitions they might get involved in.

For a complete listing of the services I can provide, see my image titled Services List in my business graphics gallery. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me and if you have an up-coming event for yourself or your children or just need some portraiture done, I would be more than happy to discuss the possibility of working with you.

And of course, if you see any of my images (of which, this sampling is a very tiny part) that you just love, I'd be more than happy to provide you an enlargement to display in your home or office. If you don't see anything you like or something you would like in particular, feel free to ask as I may have it or will make every effort to get it for you!

I also do digital manipulations of images to make totally new art. You can see some examples of this in my Manipulations gallery.

On an on-going basis, I will be adding to my galleries as quickly as I can, to give you all new images to browse and enjoy.

Thank you all!
